Why did we start the TLD company?

We started this company as a result of a two hour meeting at a Christchurch café. In fact, we had put an advert on the My Job Space website looking for entrepreneurial people wanting to start their own TLD Home-based business. We didn't expect at the time, that we would meet an individual who would completely change the way we look at words by sharing a "Great Secret" only known by a select few in the internet inner circle!

Our new friend shares the Secret...

Our new found friend explained that when we want to find a product or a service, the modern accepted way is to type what we are trying to find into Google. He pointed out that the printed telephone directory is a dinosaur and people hate trawling through big out-of-date coloured books! I was thinking 'Yeah so what, I know all that and I do it myself.' He then went on to tell us that there are only 6 Google qualified people in NZ and he is one of them. As you can imagine we sat up and listened carefully, one thing we have learnt from past experience is to always listen to an expert in their field. Our new friend went on to explain that people don't sit in front of their computer trying to remember the name of that Florist in Tauranga, instead they just type into Google: 'Florists Tauranga' If you own the Domain name FloristsTauranga.co.nz Google gives it a big tick. As long as you have a well designed and optimised website, this pushes you up the search results as a perfect match. So I asked 'does that mean having a domain name like www.MikeSmithDrafting.co.nz makes it harder for people to find the website?' He said yes exactly! Mike Smith should have HouseDesigns.co.nz because 'House Designs' is a keyword search people use when looking for a drafting company.

We had to confirm this for ourselves...

So after this eye opening meeting we started our own in-depth search into what this Google expert called 'the keyword Secret'. What we found was incredible; we wondered if New Zealand had been living under a rock. More mature internet markets like USA, Canada, UK and even Australia have all known this information for a long time. The more we searched the more we uncovered, website after website, page after page and Blog after Blog all discussing this 'Keyword Secret'. As we dug deeper, fact after fact our expert had told us was repeated over and over by leaders and specialists in their own markets. Point after point, advantage after advantage these experts drove TLD Home that having at least one Keyword loaded domain name is a non-negotiable when it comes to long-term business success!
