Good Domain Names get a better location!Invest in Internet Real Estate Sometimes called Virtual Real Estate Most people have not considered the idea of Internet location or more correctly called "Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Let us look at the "Real World" Physical Real Estate - stick with me here, you may have an aha moment! Destination Shopper or Location Shopper
With a bricks and mortar business we make strategic decisions on things like, do we locate our business in less expensive area and rely on the "Destination Shopper" - this is like The Warehouse or Briscoes; They spend 100's of 1000's on marketing to make sure if you want something they sell, you know where they are and will drive to their store - "Destination Business". Or do we set up in the main street or the shopping mall and take advantage of the large volume of traffic created by the "Location Shopper" - this is like Whitcoulls or Michael Hill Jeweler, they spend a lot more for there premises to be where the people are - "Location Business". Then there is the cost of the two options; if we rely on the destination shopper, our address doesn't really matter and we can pay less to buy or lease the building and land. However if we want to gain from the location shopper we know the address is the key and will invest in the high profile location and pay a lot more to own or lease the building and land. Sometimes this leads to compromising on size and the quality of the fit out. Virtual Real Estate
Now lets look at the 'Virtual World" internet Real Estate - pleased you are still with me! We need to understand that a Domain Name is virtual land where we build our online business to create our Virtual Real Estate. If we rely on the "Destination Shopper" our address or Domain Name and the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) do not really matter because you are going to spend large sums on promoting your website through traditional media so the customer knows where you are and types in your address directly (Drives to your store) This was like Ferrit.co.nz they spent millions to get the public to know the address and encourage us to visit - "Destination Virtual Business". If we want the huge advantages of the "Location Shopper" Our address, Domain Name and Search Engine Results Page are extremely important, we need to be where the traffic or people are already looking. To continue with Ferrit example, prior to the millions being spent on the domain name brand, Ferrit had virtually no Google Searches, however something like StuffForSale.co.nz already has 60,500 customers in the area! Yes in New Zealand 60,500 people type "Stuff For Sale" into Google every month! This is a very broad example, but consider Mr Mike Entrepreneur wants to start a whiteware store - he could have the domain name MikesAppliances.co.nz or he could locate himself in the "Mall" where 2400 customers a month are already looking and buy or lease the domain name Whiteware.co.nz. More than one Website?
Last point! You may already have a website with a less than ideal location and you want to get some of the "Mall" action! Well open another store or Minisite in the mall and direct the traffic back to your main website address. That's what we do and we can help you too! |
